Tencent Technology News (Zhongtao) News on June 5th, Beijing time, according to the American technology blog website TechCrunch, in order to strengthen GoogleDocs(Google Docs) to promote the online office suite,Google launched an independent website on Friday (the URL is docs.google.com/demo), and netizens do not log in to GoogleDocs accounts , you can also try out the full-featured Docs.
Google Docs has the core functions of Microsoft Office, and users can use it through the browser without having to install it themselves. Ordinary users can use Google Docs for free, while enterprise users need to pay $50 per employee per year. Google said not long ago that the number of users of its Docs service has reached 25 million since it was launched four years ago. Although the number of Docs users is far less than that of Office, it has maintained a high growth trend.
In the process of promoting Docs, Google mainly emphasizes its new features such as "cloud computing-based" and "real-time collaboration". Google has released a Docs feature demonstration video for this purpose. But video demonstrations alone are not enough to convince more existing Office users to switch to Docs.
In order to further strengthen the promotion of Docs, Google launched a new website on Friday. On this website, netizens who do not have a Docs account can also try out the full-featured version of Docs.
After netizens log in to the website, they can see a new document in which users can try to enter text. The website will remind users that since it is a trial version, the document content entered by the user can only be saved for 24 hours. More importantly, the website also allows users to invite friends and colleagues to participate in editing the same document, which is to try out the online collaboration function of Docs.
TechCrunch believes that although Google’s newly launched Docs promotion website does not display any new features of Docs, the website will undoubtedly help attract more Office users to try Docs.
Richard Williams, an analyst at U.S. market research firm Cross Research, said last month that in the short term, Google Docs cannot yet pose a substantial threat to Microsoft Office, “but as time goes by, "More and more netizens are accustomed to accessing software through the Internet, and this is what Microsoft should be most worried about."
